Our Wildlife Conservation program is built on a model of coexistence, not conflict. We work with pastoralist communities who live alongside wildlife to develop shared stewardship of their natural heritage.
By aligning community well-being with ecosystem health, we create tangible incentives for conservation, protecting biodiversity while ensuring communities derive direct benefits from the wildlife and habitats they help preserve.
Our Integrated Approach:
We broker partnerships and develop community-led conservation enterprises:
-
Community Conservancy & Corridor Management: Supporting communities to establish and manage conservancies or protect key wildlife corridors, developing grazing plans that balance livestock needs with habitat preservation.
-
Wildlife-Compatible Livelihoods: Facilitating enterprises that benefit from a healthy ecosystem, such as eco-tourism (campsites, cultural tours), regulated sustainable harvesting of non-timber forest products, or beekeeping.
-
Human-Wildlife Conflict Mitigation: Implementing practical solutions like predator-proof enclosures for livestock and early warning systems to reduce losses and build tolerance for wildlife presence.
Impact & Alignment:
This program demonstrates that environmental and community goals are synergistic. Healthy ecosystems underpin Climate Change Mitigation (through carbon sinks) and regulate WASH resources. The revenue from conservation enterprises diversifies Sustainable Livelihoods, and collaborative management of shared resources is a powerful tool for Peace and Security. It embodies the principle of living in harmony with the environment.
