Our Peace and Security program addresses the root causes of instability in pastoralist regions. We move from reactive crisis response to proactive peacebuilding by creating spaces for dialogue, rebuilding trust between communities, and establishing fair systems for managing shared resources. Our goal is to transform the relationships between neighboring groups, making peace a sustainable community-owned asset that allows all other development work to flourish.
Our Integrated Approach:
We build peace from the ground up through inclusive processes:
-
Multi-Stakeholder Peace Dialogues: Convening and mediating regular forums that bring together elders, women, youth, and cross-border representatives to address grievances and negotiate shared-use agreements for grazing land and water.
-
Early Warning & Response Systems: Training community peace monitors to identify and report rising tensions, enabling rapid intervention by respected local leaders before conflicts escalate.
-
Peace Infrastructure Development: Supporting joint economic ventures (like cross-border markets) and shared community assets (like water points) that create interdependence and build social cohesion.
Impact & Alignment:
Peace is the enabling environment for all development. Without it, WASH infrastructure can be destroyed, Agro-Value Chain trade routes are disrupted, and Education is interrupted. This program is therefore foundational, protecting investments in every other sector and ensuring that communities can plan for a future free from the threat of violent conflict.
