Our Climate Change Mitigation program empowers pastoralist communities to become frontline defenders of their environment. We move beyond theory to implement practical, nature-based solutions that combat land degradation, restore water cycles, and enhance carbon sequestration. This work transforms vulnerable landscapes into resilient buffers against climate shocks, directly safeguarding the natural resource base that pastoralist livelihoods depend upon.
Our Integrated Approach:
We partner with communities to deploy a suite of proven adaptation strategies:
-
Ecosystem-Based Adaptation: Leading landscape restoration through community-led reseeding of native grasses, protection of water catchment areas, and establishing climate-smart community woodlots.
-
Renewable Energy Adoption: Promoting and facilitating access to clean energy solutions like solar power for households and institutions, reducing reliance on biomass and fossil fuels.
-
Regenerative Land Management: Training in and supporting sustainable agricultural and grazing practices that improve soil health, increase biodiversity, and boost the land’s natural water retention capacity.
Impact & Alignment:
This foundational program is intrinsically linked to all of PDA’s work. By restoring ecosystems, we secure the Water, Sanitation & Hygiene (WASH) sources, create a stable base for Agro-Value Chain Development, and reduce the resource scarcity that fuels conflict, thereby supporting Peace and Security. It is the bedrock of long-term community resilience.
