Our Civic Education Program strengthens the foundation of peace and participatory governance in pastoralist regions. We believe that an informed and engaged citizenry is essential for resolving resource-based conflicts and ensuring that development meets community needs. Through non-partisan education, we empower community members, especially women and youth, to understand their rights, engage effectively with government structures, and hold leaders accountable for equitable service delivery and resource management.
Our Integrated Approach:
We facilitate knowledge and skills for active citizenship:
- Understanding Devolution & Rights: We demystify county and national governance, explaining roles, responsibilities, and budget processes to show how civic participation translates into tangible community benefits like water points, schools, and health services.
- Inclusive Dialogue & Leadership: Our workshops create safe spaces for inclusive dialogue, prioritizing the voices of women and youth. We build skills in advocacy, public speaking, and constructive engagement with elected officials and administrators.
- Linking Peace & Participation: We explicitly connect informed voting and civic engagement to conflict prevention, showing how equitable political representation and fair resource allocation are key to lasting Peace and Security.
Impact & Alignment:
This program is a critical pillar of PDA’s work in Peace and Security and Women & Youth Empowerment. By fostering an informed electorate and inclusive decision-making, we help build more stable, accountable, and responsive governance. This leads to development that truly reflects community priorities, reduces tensions over scarce resources, and paves the way for sustainable and harmonious growth.
